On October 9,2021 a conference of the Union of Armenians in Europe was held in Barcelona, Spain.The event was attented by representatives of various European structures and public figures from Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain and the Netherlands. The second secretary of the RA Embassy in the Kingdom of Spain Mariam Gevorgyan was also present at the conference.She represented the message and the welcoming speach of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Kingdom of Spain, Mr. Vladimir Karmirshalyan. The agenda of the conference was presented by Arthur Hovhannisyan, the chairman of the “UAE”. There were discussed a number of issues related to the Armenian community, preservation of the Armenian identity and national unity, Armenia-Diaspora cooperation, the impact of the epidemic on the union’s activities, financial support provided to Armenia, the visit of the “UAE” leadership to Armenia-Artsakh, the cooperation programs being implemeted by the newly established UAE center in Barcelona, as well as between Armenian embassies in Europe and Armenian Communites. Issues related to the role and importance of the Armenian Apostolic Church for Armenian communities were also discussed. An award ceremony was held, during which the title of Honorary Member of the UAE was awarded, special letters of thanks were given to a number of members of the Union and their colleagues. After the conference, on October 10, Hayk Yeghiazaryan, the representative of the Spanish branch of the UAE, organized a charity concert dedicated to the heroes of the 44-day Artsakh war took place, during which, according to the decision of the UAE, all the raised money will be given to servicemen wounded during the war to cover tuition fees. Singers from Armenia Vardan Badalyan, Davit Khachatryan, Eva Yeganyan, duduk player, a resident of Spain Hovhannes Karakhanyan, as well as the “Hayk” dance ensemble from Barcelona performed at the concert. There was also present “Ararat Union” of Catalonia. The evening was hosted by Vardan Tadevosyan, the UAE Armenian Representative. At the end of the concert program, Armen Knyazyan, a hero of Artsakh and a resident of Spain, who heroically died in the 44-day Artsakh war, was posthumously awarded by the highest medal. The medal was handed to the hero’s wife and daughter. At the end of the two-day visit, the UAE members, led by Arthur Hovhannisyan, laid a wreath in front of the khachkar commemorating the Armenian Genocide, recently erected in the yard of the Santa Maria Reina Church on the initiative of Barcelona-based Armenian businessman Arman Mailyan.
